The research determined conclusively that yeast derived beta glucan derived from this unique patented process as a pure isolate to avoid any allergic reactions as an oral dietary supplement, powerfully potentiates and modulates the immune response through activation of the macrophage immune cells. Beta glucan has an extensive research history and scientific research studies. Jordan stated, "various beta glucans used in nutritional dietary supplements are particulate glucans generally large in size in a range of 5-50 microns known as "globular" glucans. Even when other glucans are reduced in particle size externally, when subjected to water in the digestive process they reaggregate, or clump back together to yield a large particle size again. To optimally potentiate the immune response, these particles need to be nonaggregated and maintain a size of 1-2 microns as a microparticulate, but that is not the case in globular glucans - only MG beta glucan." The medical school research which contributed to the U.S. Patent demonstrates that nonaggregated microparticulate Beta 1/3,1/6 Glucan is twice as potent in creating the "nitric oxide burst" in the macrophage cells as all other globular or aggregated glucans and this characteristic is a definitive measure of the immune response MG by any given glucan. Quotes from the new U.S. Patent on small particle beta glucan preparation follow: "The greater generation and/or production of NO (Nitric Oxide) demonstrates the enhanced activity of the macrophage with a small particle size glucan which is indicative of an activity level of an immune system. ... The measurement of NO production is indicative of an oxidative burst that kills and/or destroys the ingested microbes and/or particles by the macrophage. As a glucan re-aggregates into particles of greater than one micron in diameter, it appears to pass through an animal or human digestive system without substantially complete absorption. ... As the glucan re-aggregates to a size of greater than one micron in diameter, some of the beneficial effect of the glucan is not achieved because the macrophage receptors are not activated as readily by glucan greater than one micron in diameter because the receptor size on corresponding cells and molecules that accept the glucan is generally about one micron in size. ... The greater percentage phagocytosis demonstrates the enhanced activity of the macrophage and the small particle size glucan's ability to activate the immune system." The microparticulate glucan derived from the U.S. patented process will be available only as MG Glucan in NSC-24 and NSC-100 Immunition products, with further research and processing in the new NSC laboratory.
